BEIJING, (CAJ News) – IN a world increasingly defined by Western-inspired conflicts, military interventions and geopolitical fragmentation, China and Russia are positioning their relationship as a counterweight built on strategic unity, stability and a shared vision of peace.

That message was underscored this week during a virtual meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling what both leaders describe as an unbreakable partnership rooted in security, sovereignty and multilateralism.

Speaking from Beijing, Xi called for deeper coordination at a time of global turbulence, stating that “China and Russia should work together to maintain global strategic stability.”

The leaders exchanged New Year greetings and reflected on the symbolism of renewal, but the substance of the meeting focused firmly on the future of global order.

Xi emphasized that both nations, as major powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, carry a responsibility to “firmly safeguard the victorious outcomes of World War II” and defend the UN-centered international system and international law.

The relationship is entering a milestone period.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination, the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, and the launch of the China-Russia Years of Education.

Xi also highlighted China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, stressing that Beijing’s high-level opening up will create shared development opportunities, including for Russia.

Putin echoed the tone of strategic alignment, reaffirming confidence in bilateral ties and calling on both sides to “continue to support each other steadfastly in safeguarding their national sovereignty and security.”

He emphasized cooperation across economic development, education and cultural exchange, while committing to closer coordination on global platforms such as the UN, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Beyond bilateral interests, the meeting reflected a broader philosophical stance on global peace.

History has repeatedly shown that unnecessary wars, aggression and regime-change interventions inflict lasting harm on civilians, destabilize regions and erode trust between nations.

By contrast, peace delivers tangible benefits: economic growth, secure trade routes, human development, technological progress and the protection of fundamental human rights.

Unity among nations encourages respect for sovereignty, equality regardless of size, and adherence to the rule of law. Peace creates space for dialogue instead of destruction, cooperation instead of coercion, and development instead of displacement.

Safety and security flourish when international disputes are resolved through diplomacy rather than force.

This vision places peace, unity, and cooperation at global center.
