NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – THE government, industry leaders and stakeholders are exploring solutions towards improve the quality of information and communication technology (ICT) services in Kenya.

Ongoing glitches as digital services continue to rise include slow mobile internet, unstable data connections and dropped calls particularly impacting citizens outside major cities.

On Thursday, the Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya convened a multi-stakeholder meeting to review the quality of services and strengthen collaboration across the sector.

Discussions in Nairobi focused on network readiness for the artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G era, expanding coverage to underserved areas and strengthening the resilience of critical telecommunications infrastructure.

Officials also explored practical solutions to challenges such as fibre cuts, energy costs and infrastructure security.

“Delivering world-class digital services requires strong partnerships between Government, regulators and industry,” Steve Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, said.

He pledged the government’s commitment to working closely with mobile network operators to improve service quality, expand connectivity and build resilient digital infrastructure.

“We will do everything to ensure that Kenyans receive the services they deserve. Where there are gaps, especially as technology evolves, we will work together to address them,” Isaboke said.

Adding every Kenyan must have reliable network coverage regardless of location, he said quality communication services were critical for citizens to access government services, voter registration and future elections. Polls are scheduled for 2027 in the East African country.

Chief executive officers of Airtel Kenya, Safaricom and Telkom Kenya attended the meeting.

Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO, mentioned reliable electricity remained critical for uninterrupted communication services.

He added localised service challenges persisted due to changing urban landscapes and difficult terrain.

Ndegwa pledged close partnerships with CA Kenya through initiatives such as the Universal Service Fund (USF) to improve connectivity in underserved areas.
