Sundowns roar as Chiefs draw

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – WEDNESDAY night delivered four compelling Betway Premiership encounters, with Mamelodi Sundowns producing the statement performance, Golden Arrows claiming a valuable first victory, while Kaizer Chiefs were held and Polokwane City and Milford FC cancelled each other out.

Sundowns 5-2 AmaZulu

The Brazilians were ruthless at Loftus Versfeld, overwhelming AmaZulu in a seven-goal thriller.

Brayan Léon struck twice, while Teboho Mokoena, Tashreeq Matthews and Bennet Mokoena completed a commanding victory.

AmaZulu’s Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya scored both consolation goals, taking his league-leading tally to five.

Sundowns now have 10 points from four matches and sit second only on goal difference behind Orlando Pirates.

Their attacking output and ability to recover from setbacks underline why they remain serious title contenders.

For AmaZulu, however, their first defeat exposes defensive vulnerabilities and costs them ground at the summit.

Richards Bay 2-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Richards Bay twice took the lead through Nqaba Xulu, but Chiefs showed resilience.

Lebohang Maboe cancelled out the first goal before Siphesihle Ndlovu’s 77th-minute equaliser rescued a point for the visitors.

Chiefs remain third on eight points, but the draw means they have missed an opportunity to stay within touching distance of the leaders.

Richards Bay, meanwhile, remain 12th with three points and are still searching for their first league victory.

Xulu’s three goals already make him one of the division’s emerging threats.

Golden Arrows 1-0 Stellenbosch

Golden Arrows finally broke their league duck, edging Stellenbosch through Sede Junior Dion’s 70th-minute diving header.

The victory lifts Arrows to sixth on six points and, importantly, could provide momentum after their impressive MTN8 form.

Stellenbosch slip to 11th on four points, meaning early-season consistency must become a priority.

Polokwane City 0-0 Milford FC

There were no goals at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium as the sides shared the spoils.

Milford’s point keeps them fifth on seven points, while Polokwane occupy 10th with five.

For both, the result represents stability rather than acceleration: Milford remain competitive near the top, while Polokwane need greater attacking productivity.

After four matches, Pirates and Sundowns lead on 10 points, followed by Chiefs (8), AmaZulu and Milford (7).

Golden Arrows and Sekhukhune have six, while Durban City, TS Galaxy and Polokwane have five.

Stellenbosch have four, Richards Bay and Chippa three, Siwelele two, and Marumo Gallants and Kruger United one each.

The early lesson is clear: the title race is already tightening, while the bottom three cannot afford another slow start.
